In light of our newsletter’s focus on happiness this week, I wanted to share a recurring question that I’ve received from many of my small business clients throughout my years of coaching.

Question:

Lately, I have been grappling with a persistent state of being overwhelmed and stressed, which has led to feelings of melancholy and a general sense of low mood. I’d like to explore ways to bring more happiness into my daily routine. How can I cultivate joy and contentment amidst the challenges I’m currently facing?

Answer:

Finding happiness while running a business and leading a busy life can be challenging, but it’s essential for your well-being and success. Start by incorporating small moments of joy into your daily routine, such as taking short breaks for self-care activities or practicing gratitude. Prioritize tasks that align with your passions and values, and delegate or outsource non-essential responsibilities. Embrace mindfulness techniques to stay present and manage stress. Remember, setting boundaries and carving out time for activities you love outside of work will help foster a healthier work-life balance. Cultivating happiness is a journey, so be patient and kind to yourself along the way!

I hope that answer resonates with you and provides some guidance on how to infuse happiness into your entrepreneurial journey. Remember, finding happiness is a personal and ongoing process, and it’s important to explore various strategies that work for you. In addition to the suggestions mentioned earlier, consider incorporating a daily gratitude practice. Expressing gratitude has been shown to enhance happiness and overall well-being. So, give it a try and see how it positively impacts your mindset and outlook on life.”

Recipe of the Week: Eat Yourself Happy

Serotonin Sunrise Delight

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 cup fresh berries (blueberries, strawberries, or raspberries)
  • 1 cup spinach or kale leaves
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Unsweetened coconut flakes (optional)
  • Ice cubes (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Peel the banana and place it in a blender.
  2. Add the fresh berries, spinach or kale leaves, almond butter, almond milk, honey or maple syrup (if desired), and vanilla extract.
  3. Blend all the ingredients until smooth and creamy.
  4. If desired, add a few ice cubes and blend again until well incorporated.
  5. Pour the smoothie into a glass.
  6. If desired, sprinkle some unsweetened coconut flakes on top and enjoy!

Happiness-Boosting Ingredients and their Benefits:

Banana: Rich in tryptophan, an amino acid that supports the production of serotonin, the “feel-good” neurotransmitter. It also contains vitamins B6 and C, which help regulate mood and reduce stress.

Berries: Packed with antioxidants that combat inflammation and oxidative stress, berries contribute to brain health and enhance overall mood. They are also a great source of fiber, which promotes gut health and indirectly influences mood and well-being.

Spinach or Kale: Leafy greens are abundant in folate, a B-vitamin that plays a crucial role in serotonin synthesis. They are also rich in magnesium, which helps relax the muscles and supports a calm state of mind.

Almond Butter: Contains healthy fats and protein, providing sustained energy and promoting satiety. The presence of magnesium and vitamin E in almond butter contributes to brain health and emotional well-being.

Almond Milk: Fortified with vitamin D, almond milk helps regulate mood and supports cognitive function. It is also a dairy-free alternative, making it suitable for individuals with lactose intolerance or dietary preferences.

Honey or Maple Syrup (optional): Natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup can provide a gentle boost of energy while adding a touch of sweetness to the smoothie. The sweet taste can trigger the release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and reward.

Vanilla Extract: Known for its soothing aroma, vanilla has been linked to reducing stress and anxiety. Its scent can have a calming effect on the mind and promote relaxation.

By combining these ingredients, you create a delicious smoothie that not only tantalizes your taste buds but also nourishes your body with nutrients that contribute to happiness. Sip on this happiness-boosting smoothie to kick-start your day with a positive mindset and elevated mood!

Making the choice to be happy requires a proactive approach and a shift in mindset. Here are a few tips that have helped me on this path:

Embrace self-care: Prioritize self-care activities that nourish your mind, body, and soul. Whether it’s taking breaks, practicing mindfulness, engaging in hobbies, or getting enough rest, self-care replenishes your energy and enhances overall well-being.

Surround yourself with positivity: Surround yourself with supportive and uplifting people who inspire and motivate you. Seek out communities, mentors, or like-minded individuals who share your values and entrepreneurial spirit. Their positivity and encouragement can have a profound impact on your happiness and success.

Focus on purpose and passion: Align your entrepreneurial endeavors with your purpose and passion. When you’re engaged in work that aligns with your values and brings you joy, it becomes easier to choose happiness. Find ways to infuse your passion into your daily activities and prioritize projects that make a meaningful impact.
